Pics from within a quarter of a mile of Buncefield Oil Depot fire

Today we managed to get within a quarter of a mile from the Buncefield Oil Depot fire. These pics were taken between noon and 12.50pm today, and are taken from different areas around the disaster site. Somehow we managed to get into Maylands Avenue, Hemel hempstead. The cones had been moved, so we got some quite close up shots of the Industrial area in front of the fire. Bare in mind though that all the pics were only taken with my camera phone. When we got to the end of Maylands Ave it was coned off, with police across it. We were asked how we had got in and told them that we had come from Adeyfield, then along Wood Lane end and out onto Maylands Avenue, where the cones had obviously been moved. Now I would have thought that they would have had police up at that end, stopping this from happening.

Only 3 more fires to put out.

Update on the Buncefield Oil Depot Fire

The latest news is that 12 out of the 20 fires have been put out. Now they are struggling to put out the rest. I saw on the TV this morning (yes I know it's early, didn't sleep well) that the residents who have been evacuated, may have to stay in temporary accommodation for about a week, before they can return to their homes. Many of those evacuated have had severe damage done to their homes too. My son is off school again today. They have closed all schools within a 10 mile radius.

Yesterdays Buncefield Oil Depot Fire (UK)

My pc has been down for a while, so not been able to post. Was hoping it would be up and running during the day yesterday. Well, I have control again (well more or less that is).

I live in a village called Abbots langley which is approx 3miles from Hemel Hempstead, where the Bunsfield Oil Depot exploded yesterday morning just after 6am GMT. I think the explosion must have woken me, the house was shaking. My first thought was that it was an earthquake. It was unbelievable and I really feel for those that were closer to the explosion. We got up and well, put on the tv to find out that the oil depot had exploded (well, part of it that is). Thankfully such small nukmbers were injured. My uncle Len lives about 5 minutes round the corner from it, and my cousin Vic drives a tanker out of that depot. I phoned my mum, and she said "Should I phone Len". I told her she should. Her reply was "He might not be awake", to which I replied "If we felt it he would have". Fortuantely Len and his wife were ok, just a bit shook up. Vic's company had had their 50th Anniversary the night before, and they were taken to the ritz, fortunately he was hung over and in a hotel bed. Normally he would have been at the depot at that time on a Sunday morning.

Here are some pics I took from my house as the day unfolded.

This is the first pic I took around 6.30am

This pic was taken just after dawn.

Around 10am. You can see that the sky looks as if it is almost dusk.

Taken around noon.

Around noon.

Around noon.

Around 1pm.

Around 1.30pm. The smoke is now decending over the fields out the back of me. I can't see anything beyond my garden.

Around 3pm. It is so strange that an hour before we could barely see anything. Now it is sunny and blue sky, but we can still see the plume of black smoke.

Half hour later and the sky is black again.

As it's just starting to get dark.

They are now trying to put the fire out. I can't see any smoke from my house anymore. I'm relying on pictures on the news to see what is happening. Evidently they do not know how long it will take to put our, or if they even can. They are in uncharted territory.

My thoughts are with those who were injured, those whose houses are damaged and those who live close, to the fire or have been evacuated.

Bad news

I had some bad news on Friday. I'm not going to get my islet transplant. My kidneys are leaking more protein and the anti-rejection drugs would be too dangerous to my kidneys as they cause more damage to them. It has now been put on hold until they develop anti-rejection drugs that don't do damage to them. They are working on these in Canada but the consultant thinks that it will be about 5 years before they are developed, tested and made available over here.

What a shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's been ages

Hi everyone,

Thought i'd better let you know that i'm still alive. It's been ages since I last posted. It's been ages since I visited anyone elses journals too.

I've not been well. I've had 3 kidney infections in a row and hope that this time the antibiotics have worked. I have a suspected fractured wrist. Hurt it 3 weeks ago and had two x-rays now but the hospital can't make up their minds if it's fractured or not. Have now been referred to the fracture clinic at another hospital, and go there next week. I have also got my angiogramme next week that i'm not looking forward too. Not sleeping well and still quite depressed.

Why does the shit always come at once?
